How does DronePilotsUK work for clients?

DronePilotsUK is a not‑for‑profit service or directory that helps you find verified UAV pilots across the UK for photography, surveys, inspections and more. You browse by area or service, view pilot profiles and then contact your chosen pilot directly.

Do I book and pay through DronePilotsUK?

No. DronePilotsUK introduces you to verified pilots but does not sit in the middle of contracts or payments. You agree scope, price and terms directly with the pilot or their company.

Is there a fee for clients to use DronePilotsUK?

No, the service is free for clients. Pilots pay a small annual fee to be listed, and there are no commissions or hidden costs added to your project.

Are the pilots on DronePilotsUK qualified and insured?

Every listed pilot is identity‑checked and must provide evidence of the appropriate CAA registration, qualifications (such as GVC for Specific Category work) and insurance before being approved.

How do I know a pilot can legally fly at my site?

The pilot is responsible for checking airspace, local restrictions, landowner permissions and risk assessments for your specific location and job. As a client, you should ask to see their CAA documentation, insurance and any site‑specific permissions they obtain.

Can DronePilotsUK recommend one specific pilot for my job?

DronePilotsUK is designed as a neutral directory and does not act as a broker or agent. You can shortlist several pilots, review their profiles and choose whoever best fits your needs, budget and availability.

What types of work can DronePilotsUK pilots do?

Pilots offer a wide range of services including aerial photography, video, roof and asset inspections, mapping, construction progress, surveys and marketing content. Each profile lists the services, equipment and experience that pilot provides.

How much does it cost to hire a drone pilot?

Costs vary with location, flight time, planning complexity, risk, permissions and deliverables (e.g. raw footage vs edited video or survey outputs). Most pilots will provide a custom quote once you share details like site address, dates and what you need delivered.

How far in advance should I book a pilot?

For simple photography jobs, a week or two may be enough, but anything involving complex airspace, large sites or detailed surveys benefits from more lead time. Booking early gives pilots time to plan, obtain permissions and reschedule if weather is unsuitable.

What information should I provide when contacting a pilot?

You should share the site address or map link, desired dates/times, type of work (e.g. roof inspection, property video), any access constraints and your required outputs. This helps the pilot quickly confirm feasibility, price and any additional permissions needed.

Do I need to be on site during the flight?

For many jobs it is helpful or sometimes required to have a client contact on site to help with access, briefings and safety. The pilot will confirm whether your presence is essential once they understand the location and risk profile.

What happens if the weather is bad on the day?

Drone flights are weather‑dependent and pilots will not fly if conditions make it unsafe or illegal, for example high winds or poor visibility. In that case, they will normally rearrange the flight with you for another suitable date.

What are the Terms and Conditions that apply to me as the client?

Our client Terms and Conditions explain how DronePilotsUK works, what you can expect from the platform, and what responsibilities you have when hiring a pilot. They cover key points like our role as an introduction service only, your need to verify a pilot’s current insurance and qualifications, and how liability is allocated between you, the pilot and the website.
